ITS–Diving has changed from a dangerous sport to a blend of adventure and excitement, thanks to Indonesia’s beautiful under-water panorama. The country offers a huge number of sea parks, either explored or unexplored, in Maluku, Nusa Tenggara, and Sulawesi.
The sport, thus increasingly links with tourism. Many people have come out to unveil the secrets of the natural life down deep in the ocean.
Indonesia governing diving body is POSSI which is affiliated with the National Sports Council (KONI) and the Confederation Mondiale Des Activities Subaquatiqnes or the World Underwater Federation.
The sport was introduced as a medal event in national Games, with six provinces taking part in the new competition. Diving athletes are required to undergo a number of skills before they earn senior divers and instructor certifications.
